What advice do you have for someone who is thinking about buying an electric powered boat?
Do it! You will be so happy. It’s easier, quieter and just better. Once you’ve decided to go electric, the most important thing is make sure it’s done right. Either have it done by a professional or have a professional certify the installation.
Have you experienced any downsides of using an electric boat?
In the beginning we had a small battery bank to save weight and money. 90% of the time that was fine, but when we had days of no wind, we felt limited. We put more batteries and some solar on the boat and it made a huge difference.
Any other advice about using an electric boat you want to share?
Get some sort of instrument panel that tells you how much charge you are using and how much range you have left. It will really help you manage your speed and use of the motor. And enjoy! I can’t tell you how much more you’ll enjoy the peace and quiet of using electric. It will be an adjustment, but on the whole it is so much better.
