Salona S46
Overview
The Salona S46 might be the finest electric sailboat produced to date. Sailing Uma, in partnership with Green Yachts, produced a video on the Salona S46 with twin Oceanvolt electric motors that has received over 500,000 views.
The twin electric motor propulsion system by Oceanvolt is a game changer for electric propulsion because of the maneuverability and doubled power of hydroregeneration. Not only is the Salona S46 electric, but it is the best sailing cruiser we have ever seen. On its first sail in North America, we averaged over 9 knots over a 45 mile sail. We are excited to bring such a stunning, fast and well-built electric sailboat to the USA! The S46 is the next generation of the S44, which won sailboat of the year in the US in 2015. Salona, which is always pushing its own boundaries for speed and quality, wanted to build upon the performance of the S44 and worked with J&J Design to make the S46 faster, roomier and more modern than the successful and award-winning S44.
Exterior
The S46 has a spacious cockpit with deck equipment designed to maximize both sailing performance and relaxing outdoors in style. The twin wheel helm enables the helmsman to stand to windward with an unobstructed view. The cockpit area is large enough to allow multiple crew members to trim the sails or for a family to comfortably lounge on deck. Halyards and other lines run aft to the cockpit clutches and winches on top of the cabin roof on both sides of the companionway hatch making single-handed steering easy. At anchor, the aft swim platform can be lowered adding over 20 square feet of deck space, making the large cockpit even bigger.
Open, modern, intuitive, spacious, functional, clean, lots of natural light are all descriptions boat owners hope to find some of in a sailboat interior. In the Salona S46, all of these superlatives are all found in the newest interior design created by Salona.
Interior
The settee to starboard can have the table tucked beneath the settee or raised up and used as a nav station or cocktail table between two seats.
The galley and the dinette are well-designed and make preparing a meal at sea a breeze to cook and easy to enjoy whether one is at anchor for the night or doing a long passage. It is well-equipped with a cavernous refrigerator, 3-burner galley, double sink and plenty of counter and cabinet space.
The forward stateroom has its own private head with a separate shower area and portlights that give a mesmerizing view of the sea lapping at the hull, giving a new meaning to being one with the sea.
