Wind Generators
Wind generators are a good option for increasing the amount of power generation on your boat if the solar and hydroregeneration options are not enough for your power consumption. When considering a wind generator, it is important to consider their advantages and disadvantages. Also, below you will find a list of leading marine wind generators.
Advantages of Wind Generators
- Wind generators create energy any time there is wind and during the night and on cloudy days can provide energy when solar cannot
- Wind speeds and density, and thus power from wind generation, are highest during the winter months when solar energy generation is most limited
- In steady, 15-20 knot trade winds, a wind generator can produce a fair amount of power
Disadvantages of Wind Generators

- Wind speeds and density, and thus power from wind generation, are highest during the winter months when solar energy generation is most limited

Leading Wind Generators
Green Yachts does not install or provide service for wind generators. Below is a list of wind generators currently available on the market.
Eclectic Energy D400
Virtually silent and vibration free in operation, the D400 is one of the most robust wind generators on the market and can withstand wind speeds up to 37 knots. It is relatively low maintenance with ‘fit and forget’ engineering and it’s robust construction means it is built for a long service life with corrosion resistant materials throughout.
Rutland 1200 Windcharger
One of the most powerful and quietest wind generators on the market that begins creating power even at low wind speeds. It can create up to 500 watts of power and the hybrid controller is easily programmed and can be connected to an MPPT and/or a solar array. The Rutland 1200 has one of the highest power outputs at 20 knots and 12 knots as well as one of the lowest wind speeds for when power generator begins.
